Brought to you by the team at UConn’s Wells Fargo Center for Neurodiversity & Inclusive Employment, this event will offer participants a practical and relatable understanding of neurodiversity and tools and techniques that enable them to apply that new knowledge day-to-day, especially in the workplace.
During this audience-interactive discussion, you will learn why the topic of neurodiversity is so important, especially in the context of accessing employment opportunities, and why UConn felt a responsibility to launch a national center on the topic. Discussion will focus on foundational information and terminology, how evaluations work, and grounding learners in a “strengths-based” perspective about neurodiversity.
At this engaging event, you will hear from the team and allies of UConn’s center about:
- What neurodiversity means and how to understand related terms like neurodivergent and neurotypical.
- The type of brain functions we’re talking about (and a little less about diagnoses and labels)
- The sometimes-unexpected barriers neurodivergent people encounter during the employment search and once hired, some distinct challenges they face in the workplace.
