Start your immersive experience at UrbanGlass where a master glass blower will demonstrate how he can transform a glob of molten glass into a delicate object in a mind-blowing, visual experience. Then Monica Bock, UConn Associate Professor of Sculpture and Ceramics, will discuss her work in the context of contemporary slip casting in ceramic art. Her process involves casting liquid clay in plaster molds to fabricate figures for her art installations.
Program 2: Calling all Foodies: Watch the Sizzle and Try Some Nibbles at the Museum of Food and Drink
Take your taste buds on a culinary journey at the Museum of Food and Drink. Start with a cooking demonstration and tasting with influential top chef David Bouley ’17H, who will share his knowledge and passion for deliciously healthy eating. Lastly, museum curator Jean Nihoul ’14 MA will lead you on a delicious journey through the museum where you’ll discover exhibits you can taste, touch, and smell, including the current exhibit titled “Chow: Making the Chinese American Restaurant.”
Program 3: Brewing Change: Craft Beer as a Social Movement in the Era of the Great American Maker
Discover why craft beer has become such a trendy phenomenon as you sample various brews at the Brooklyn Brewery. Marketing Assistant Professor Cinthia Satornino will explain how unparalleled craftsmanship combined with a personal touch is driving the remarkable success of the craft beer industry. Pizza and beer are included.
