Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station
2816 Historic Decatur Rd
San Diego, CA 92106
Networking is not a dirty word. We do it every day whether we realize it or not. Keeping that in mind, we want to try something new. Come on out to Stone Brewing for an afternoon of fun, networking and of course great beer.
That's right, we will be at Stone Brewing at Liberty Station taking career and professional development to a new level. This is not your typical networking event, nor professional development workshop. This time, we have a new spin, a fun one and we are calling it our Beers & Careers experience. Join our facilitator John Brady, and Director of Alumni Engagement for UConn, Josh Proulx for a day in the sun.
Language, culture and technology are always changing. All three have had an impact on the etiquette of the business world. Whether you just started searching for that first “real job” or you’ve been part of professional life for more years than you care to admit, odds are you’re unconsciously making assumptions about the “right” ways to interact; or even the most effective ways to interact. We’ll explore a number of scenarios through some fun and exciting games, all over a couple of beers, several examples include:
- How formal/informal should the body of an email be?
- How do you decide who to invite to a meeting? - When do you engage in pleasantries and when do you get down to concrete matters in the course of a business lunch? - When should you use titles or honorifics (Mr., Ms., Sir., Ma’am…) and when are these considered excessively formal or even rude? - When do you move from IM/text/email to a voice call? When you do, do you call the person’s office or their mobile phone? If you don’t hear back, when do you follow-up?
