Start
your immersive operatic evening with a backstage tour of the world-famous
Metropolitan Opera House. Then, join UConn Professor and Metropolitan Opera
singer Rod Nelman at the Metropolitan Opera Guild Learning Center for a
fascinating discussion about his path to the Met. Rod will also sing a
selection from Rossini’s adaptation of the Cinderella Story. Last, you can
enjoy an evening performance of Cendrillon, starring Joyce DiDonato in the
title role.

Artist and alumnus, Matt Jensen’s multi-disciplinary practice
combines walking, collecting and rigorous site-specific explorations of
landscapes. Take a walk with Matt as he shows you important art venues and renowned art installations throughout
SoHo. You’ll start at The James Hotel for a continental breakfast, where you
can view some of the 120 pieces of art curated by Matt. Then, you’ll make your
way to several SoHo stops along your journey including The Drawing Center, and two exhibitions from the Dia Art Foundation collection.
Program 3: Behind the Musical Theater Curtain

The Metropolitan Opera Guild Opera Learning Center & The Ethel Barrymore Theatre
Take a journey through musical theater’s past, present, and future! First, head to the Opera Learning Center, where celebrated master Broadway composer-librettist team of David Krane and Stephen Cole will join UConn Professor Ken Fuchs in creating a very special presentation of songs, stories, and anecdotes of Broadway history. Then, you can take in a performance of The Band’s Visit, winner of four Best Musical awards, at the historic Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
